MAC International
MAC International 2018 brought together a shortlist of artists selected from over 800 submissions, presenting work across photography, film, installation, sculpture and painting. The exhibition explored urgent contemporary concerns including land, borders, urban space, history and the politics of truth, offering a global perspective on artistic practice today.
For the exhibition, I presented Columbus Circle, NYC I and II, hung over a large-scale wall work composed of 1,125 A4 laser prints depicting a photograph of Christopher Columbus. Centred on the monument at Columbus Circle in New York City, the works examine everyday scenes unfolding around this contested public site, where debates around historical memorialisation, power and presence surface through moments that are mundane, absurd, humorous and uneasy.
